Outrageous Fair Foods You Can Make at Home

If you're missing the fall festival this year, make your favorite foods at home. These recipes will transport you to the state fair.

Outrageous Fair Foods You Can Make at Home

There's so much to love about a fall festival, whether it's the rides, games, entertainment ... but the food. From fried confections to savory bites, indulgent food is one of the biggest draws of any festival. If you can't get to the fair this fall, or you're just craving those down-home favorites, get into the spirit of the season by recreating these outrageous fair foods at home!

1. DIY caramel (or candy) apples

Get creative in the kitchen with a fresh take on classic caramel or candy apples. Once you've dipped your apple of choice into melty caramel or candy coating, go nuts (pun intended!) with crave-worthy toppings. Think chopped pecans, crushed candy bars, rainbow sprinkles, coconut flakes, or even your favorite crunchy cereal.

2. Fried candy bars

Fair food is all about deep frying everything imaginable, right? So, why not personalize it by frying your very own favorite? Just dip your candy bar of choice into a homemade batter (or a storebought mix), then fry it in oil for around 30 seconds. (We recommend using frozen candy bars so they don't get *too* melty.) Add a skewer into the finished product for that true fair experience!

3. Funnel cake ice cream sandwiches

Funnel cake (AKA fried dough) is one of the most iconic fair foods. And now, we're making this sweet treat even more outrageous by turning it into an ice cream sandwich. Start by creating miniature funnel cakes (try to shape them into discs if possible!) then let them cool before you spoon on your favorite ice cream. Take it one step further by rolling the assembled ice cream sandwiches in candy sprinkles, crushed nuts, coconut flakes, or mini chocolate chips.

4. Fried mac & cheese

There's only one way to make this favorite comfort food comfier: Fry it! Whip up a batch of your favorite macaroni and cheese recipe, or use a box mix to make the process even easier. Once the pasta is cooled, shape it into balls and let them set in the freezer. Then, dredge and batter the macaroni balls in eggs and breadcrumbs and fry in hot oil. You'll have crispy, creamy mac and cheese bites in just a few minutes!

5. Crazy kettle corn

Do you have a sweet *and* salty tooth? Kettle corn's got that perfect mix. You can make the kettle or caramel corn yourself, or buy a pre-made bag at the grocery store. Then, add chopped nuts, chocolatey candies, broken pretzels, mini marshmallows, crushed Oreos, and anything else your heart desires.
